power/comms plug? - djh - 12-04-2016 Probably a very dumb question, but what is the power/comms plug? I thought it was a USB but I don't see any confirmation of that now. The receptacle doesn't match any of my USB plugs and it doesn't appear like it would accept any plug with a metal shield, like all the USB plugs I am aware of. RE: power/comms plug? - admin - 12-04-2016 It is Micro USB Which kind of device did you get ? If it is with Dust Sensor - might it be that you are looking at the dust sensor opening ? on this picture you can see the micro usb plug.. ![]() Regards, Vladimir RE: power/comms plug? - djh - 12-04-2016 (12-04-2016, 05:33 PM)admin Wrote: It is Micro USB I have a device with a dust sensor but I'm looking at the connector, not the opening. I guess it's yet another cable type I need to buy. I believe I also need to buy a power supply? RE: power/comms plug? - admin - 12-04-2016 Yeah.. you will need a micro usb cable. And if you do not have a some free USB chargerm you would need also such. Initially i bought few dozens cables and power supplies from china, with the idea to ship them along with the device. It turned out that a chinese charger for 1$ and 2 meters USB cable for 1$ is pure crap, so i decided to throw them away RE: power/comms plug? - djh - 12-04-2016 (12-04-2016, 06:48 PM)admin Wrote: Yeah.. you will need a micro usb cable. RE: power/comms plug? - admin - 12-05-2016 Not really, the charger should be rated for 1 amp (the the device consumes 0.4 at most) e.g. something like this https://www.amazon.de/Wicked-Chili-Pro-Netzteil-Smartphone/dp/B004GXUKD4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1480903978&sr=8-5&keywords=usb+charger if you have some phone shop nearby they would have similar chargers RE: power/comms plug? - djh - 12-05-2016 (12-05-2016, 02:16 AM)admin Wrote: Not really, the charger should be rated for 1 amp I bought a 1 A charger and a suitable lead. I have the device plugged into my PC running openSUSE 42.1 /var/log/messages shows the device appearing Code: 2016-12-05T23:09:48.191052+00:00 acer-suse kernel: [309234.776251] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial and the config utility appears to be looking in the correct place (under chromium) Code: Searching for v.Air Trying : /dev/ttyUSB0 but it keeps reporting Not Found. Any ideas? RE: power/comms plug? - admin - 12-06-2016 hmmm.. just to be sure, can you check if you installed this app https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/vthings-dual-sensor-confi/ioilljeioibmlheoljmiegkkpogepgjj?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon and not this one https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/vthings-configuration-uti/kiangganloipimjbgolfijhaknkifhcn?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon does it dump something in addition to this ? RE: power/comms plug? - admin - 12-06-2016 i just pushed a new version of the configuration tool (the first link) - i believe it should automatically update in Chrome, but you can also try to remove it and install it again. it should be live in 1-2 hours. It should be version 8.2 here you can type your serial port /dev/ttyUSB0 in the input field on the bottom and press Send this will simulate that the device has connected then you can try to send command info and see if there will be some reply RE: power/comms plug? - djh - 12-06-2016 (12-06-2016, 01:17 AM)admin Wrote: i just pushed a new version of the configuration tool (the first link) - i believe it should automatically update in Chrome, but you can also try to remove it and install it again. it should be live in 1-2 hours. I think I had installed the correct app. I just closed it and relaunched it from the page that says version 8.2 to be sure but: (1) it still looks the same as it did, as far as I can see, and misbehaves in the same way (2) I have no idea how to 'remove' an app in chromium other than to close it (I never use chromium normally) (3) I can't see any version number on display in the app so I can't be sure I have the right version (4) the display doesn't looks like either of the links you posted. I'll try to attach a picture (hmm, I can't attach a file, I'll try to save it on the web) ![]() Let's hope that worked. It seems to have here. |
