CLEVELAND -- As long as hes Miamis quarterback, Ryan Tannehill will play in Dan Marinos shadow. Someday, he hopes to cast his own. Tannehill, surrounded by more offensive weapons in his second NFL season, passed for 272 yards and a touchdown, leading the Dolphins to a 23-10 win on Sunday over the Cleveland Browns, who lost their ninth straight opener and fell to 1-14 in Week 1 since 1999. Tannehill threw a 34-yard TD pass to Brian Hartline in the third quarter, and completed 6 of 7 passes for 78 yards on the Dolphins game-clinching TD drive in the fourth. "Any quarterbacks job is to get the ball in the end zone," Tannehill said, downplaying his role in a win where Miami had several stars. Daniel Thomas had a 1-yard scoring plunge with 6:48 left, putting the Dolphins up by 10, and Miami then handed it over to a defence that recorded six sacks and pummeled quarterback Brandon Weeden from start to finish. Defensive end Cameron Wake had 2 1/2 sacks and Dimitri Patterson had two of the Dolphins three interceptions. Its only one win. But for the Dolphins, who have had four consecutive losing seasons, its a big step. "If youre the same team you are Week 1 that you are Week 17, 16, then youre not making very good strides, youre probably not a post-season team," said Hartline, who had nine catches for 114 yards. "Were hoping to grow." Tannehill went 7-9 as a starter during an up-and-down rookie season (12 touchdowns, 13 interceptions), but the former first-round pick showed the Dolphins enough promise that they invested more in his future. The club signed free-agent wide receiver Mike Wallace and Brandon Gibson, and re-signed Hartline to a five-year, $30 million contract. The first game of his second season couldnt have gone much better for Tannehill, but coach Joe Philbin was cautious with his praise. "First glance, I thought he played pretty well," Philbin offered. For the Browns, coach Rob Chudzinskis opener was like so many previous ones. Cleveland hasnt won its first home game since 2004, and despite some renewed energy with the addition of better players, the Browns havent changed. Weeden finished 26 of 53 for 289 yards and one TD, but he was plagued by several drops and his offensive line was manhandled. "Its not the way we drew it up," Weeden said. "Were all going to learn from this. Theres no reason to point any fingers." Rookie Caleb Sturgis kicked field goals of 49, 45 and 36 yards for the Dolphins, who were leading 13-10 when Tannehill took the Dolphins 85 yards to set up Thomas short TD. Tannehill opened the drive with completions of 24 yards to Gordon and 16 to Hartline. Tannehill moved the Dolphins down the field without once hooking up with Wallace, who had just one catch for 15 yards and didnt want to discuss his performance with reporters afterward. "Ask coach," said Wallace, who signed a five-year, $60 million deal with the Dolphins in March after four seasons with Pittsburgh. Tannehill didnt get any boost from Miamis running game as the Dolphins were held to 20 yards on 23 carries. "Thats not a good way to live in the NFL, youve gotta have balance," Philbin said. "Obviously we did not have that." Weeden was missing top wide receiver Josh Gordon, who is suspended for the first two games for violating the leagues drug policy. Gordon would have helped some, but the Browns also hurt themselves with nine penalties and couldnt get running back Trent Richardson away from Miamis tacklers. He had 47 yards on 13 carries, but none in the fourth. "Its just the first game," Richardson said, trying to point out a positive after the disappointing loss. "Dont get it wrong. Were going to come back and play hard. This season aint over with." Tannehill connected with Hartline in the third quarter to give the Dolphins a 13-7 lead. Three plays after Browns safety T.J. Ward dropped a possible interception in the end zone, Tannehill waited for Hartline to run a double move and get past cornerback Buster Skrine before hitting his wide receiver in stride down the left sideline. Weeden and the Browns offence overcame a bizarre, ugly first half -- five penalties, three interceptions -- to somehow lead 7-6 at halftime. With 28 seconds left, Weeden hit a leaping Jordan Cameron in the back of the end zone for Clevelands lone TD, a score that brought a fist pump from Chudzinski, a lifelong Browns fan who landed his dream job and knows he has a lot of work to do with one of the leagues youngest teams. "A disappointing game and a tough start," Chudzinski said. "Theres a lot of football left to be played this season." NOTES: Dolphins rookie DE Dion Jordan picked up his first sack with 1:55 left, his only tackle. .... It was Wake 10th career multi-sack game. His 43 sacks entering this season were the most by a Dolphins player in their first four years. He had 15 sacks last season. .... Thomas led Miamis rushers with 14 yards on eight carries. ... Miami has only won two openers since 2005. ... Tannehill had three interceptions in last seasons opener, a 30-10 loss to Houston. .... Patterson left in the second half with a groin injury and didnt return. David Ospina Jersey . Toronto has lost six of its last eight games but is coming off Thursdays 7-3 victory at Kansas City. The Durban-based Sharks withstood a furious second-half fightback to beat the Queensland Reds 35-20 for a fourth straight win which gave them a five-point lead atop the championship table. The Hamilton-based Chiefs scored two late tries to beat the Cape Town-based Stormers 36-20 for their third win, after the Stormers rallied from 24-6 down to 24-20 with six minutes remaining. Jeison Murillo Colombia Jersey . Both sides of the deal have formally announced acquisitions: TFC introduced Jozy Altidore as a designated player on Friday, while their counterparts announced a three-and-a-half-year deal with Jermain Defoe. The Montreal Canadiens made a run to the Eastern Conference Final, losing in six games to the New York Rangers, and the challenge this summer will be to continue improving, recognizing that run wasnt built on the strongest foundation. Off-Season Game Plan examines a Habs team that has some very nice pieces around which to build, but GM Marc Bergevin has some work to do to fill out his roster this summer. The first priority will be getting restricted free agent defenceman P.K. Subban signed to a long-term deal. Subban took a bridge deal the last time he was a restricted free agent and betting on his own performance paid off, or it will shortly. Subban is the Canadiens most dynamic player, one of the few defencemen in the league that drive play and create offence. Behind Subban, the Habs have goaltender Carey Price, who has put up numbers that rank the best among starting goaltenders in recent years and is coming off the best season of his career; one shortened when Rangers winger Chris Kreider collided with him in Game One of the Conference Final. Up front, the Habs building blocks include Max Pacioretty, who scored 39 goals last season, 2012 third overall pick Alex Galchenyuk and rambunctious winger Brendan Gallagher; nice players all of them. The trouble is, while the Canadiens just had their second 100-point season since 1993, they were also a team that ranked in the bottom third in terms of possession and responded to that by signing their coach to a four-year contract extension. For the Habs sake, they better hope Michel Therrien has some ideas about how to reverse that puck possession trend because if the plan is to rely on Carey Price to play out of his mind in goal, well, its possible that will work, but its a risky approach to bank on a goaltending advantage to overcome a puck possession deficit. Personnel changes could help alter that tilted ice. Letting veteran defenceman Doug Murray head to free agency is a start, and maybe young blueliners like Nathan Beaulieu, Jarred Tinordi and Greg Pateryn can be part of an improved back end that will ease Prices workload. A decision to be made on free agent Andrei Markov will also play a role in determining reasonable expectations for next years defence corps. Since the Thomas Vanek experiment seemed to fall flat, the Canadiens may still have room for another scoring forward and thats probably necessary if the Canadiens harbour hopes of competing with the best teams in the Eastern Conference. If it happens to be a forward that has a track record of pushing play in the right direction, all the better. The TSN.ca Rating is an efficiency rating based on per-game statistics including goals and assists -- weighted for strength (ie. power play, even, shorthanded) -- Corsi, adjusted for zone starts, quality of competition and quality of teammates, hits, blocked shots, penalty differential and faceoffs. Generally, a replacement-level player is around a 60, a top six forward and top four defenceman will be around 70, stars will be over 80 and MVP candidates could go over 90. Sidney Crosby finished at the top of the 2013-2014 regular season ratings at 87.12. Salary cap information all comes from the indispensable http://www.capgeek.com. His relative puck possession stats have also been sensational over the past four seasons, as hes been placed into an offensive role with the Habs and has run with the opportunity. Veteran centre Tomas Plekanec had 43 points in 81 games, his lowest per-game scoring rate since 2008-2009 but, for the fifth straight year, he played more than 19 minutes per game. Much of the reason for Plekanecs offensive decline is that, as a strong two-way player, hes asked to handle tough assignments and he took on some of the toughest, against high-quality opposition and less than 40% offensive zone starts. Plekanecs ability to handle those tough minutes frees up Montreals other centres for more offensive focus. Brendan Gallagher followed up a strong rookie campaign with a good full season in his second year. The short and stocky agitator has already been a strong puck possession player, a facet of his game that should earn him more ice time on a Canadiens team that doesnt control the puck particularly well. Additionally, Gallagher plays with a relentless drive that is a great example for other Habs forwards. Through the first 19 games last season, David Desharnais had but one assist and the Habs were trying to figure out what they were going to do with him over the three-plus years remaining on his deal. Then, the tide turned, and pucks started finding the net and Desharnais, who played primarily with Pacioretty and Gallagher (and some with Thomas Vanek), tallied 51 points in his last 60 games of the season. Hes small, theres no getting around that, but Desharnais has been productive and a solid puck possession player while playing in an offensive role. Just when it might appear to time to unload Rene Bourque, and a 16-point season made that fair game, he flipped the switch in the playoffs and scored eight goals in 17 games, while generating 3.0 shots on goal per game. Thats the kind of play that the Habs need out of Bourque, a big winger who can skate and was a three-time 20-goal scorer before he was acquired in 2011-2012; he has tallied 21 goals in 128 games since. The Canadiens wont be accused of throwing Alex Galchenyuk into the fire, keeping his ice time down and his production waned as his second season went on. Around time missed with a broken hand and prior to a knee injury that knocked him out late in the regular season and through a dozen playoff games, Galchenyuk managed nine points in his last 30 games of the year. Hes a real talent and needs to play a bigger role going forward. There was plenty of reason to be skeptical that 36-year-old Daniel Briere would be a help to the Canadiens and his point production, 25 points in 69 games, was his lowest in 15 years. What is somewhat noteworthy, though, is that Briere was an adequate possession player with 44.1% offensive zone starts. Thats hardly ideal for a $4-million player, but Briere can at least fill a depth role and contribute to the power play on occasion. Acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in 2010 for defenceman Ryan OByrne, Michael Bournival started paying dividends for Montreal last season, using his speed in a checking role. He missed some time with a concussion and maybe there isnt a lot of offensive upside to his game, but Bournival can give the Canadiens reliable work in a checking role. When Brandon Prust was earning his reputation and a bona fide NHL player, in addition to willing pugilist, he was coming in a little below break-even in possession terms, but starting a high percentage of his shifts in the defensive zone, close enough that Prust could handle a regular shift, sometimes in a top-nine role. Last season, however, Prust got thumped in puck possession terms, so his play needs to improve if hes going to keep getting regular ice time. Otherwise, he can point to 100 fights over the past six seasons as his calling card. Injuries kept Travis Moen out of the lineup from time to time last season, but he was adequate in the defensive role to which he was assigned when he was healthy. It doesnt very well justify his contract, which has two years remaining, but if Moen can handle a strictly defensive fourth-line role, thats okay. No Canadiens forward scored more points in the postseason than Lars Eller, who finished with 13 in 17 games. This was among the bigger surprises of the playoffs, as Eller had six points in 35 games to finish the regular season, with three of those points coming in his last two games. For all of Ellers attributes, as a big centre who can skate, theres something amiss when he can go 33 games with one goal and two assists. He was remarkably unlucky in terms of on-ice shooting percentage and that should bounce back, but it would be nice to see the 25-year-old take another step forward in his development. Acquired in a trade for Raphael Diaz, Dale Weise has typically been obliterated when it comes to puck possession, though it needs to be acknowledged that he starts many more of his shifts in the defensive zone, tilting the ice a little in one direction already. Weise had a fortunate postseason run, scoring three goals and seven points in 16 games, and that pace isnt the kind of thing that hes expected to contribute, but if he could handle a steady fourth-line role, that would be a positive. Ryan White certainly adds bite to the Canadiens lineup when he plays, but he struggles to stay disciplined and is frequently caved in when it comes to puck possession. If the Canadiens could ever convince Joe Thornton to waive his no-movement clause -- come beat the Bruins! -- to jump into the Montreal pressure cooker, he would be an excellent fit for a team that shouldnt be seduced by their run to the Eastern Conference Final. There is talent here, and there should be room to add more in the summer, but the Canadiens need a lineup that starts driving the puck in the right direction more consistently, and Thornton is an ace in that regard. If not Thornton, and presuming that Thomas Vanek wont be coming back after a miserable postseason, then another top-six forward -- Paul Stastny, Ales Hemsky, Marian Gaborik (maybe Pierre-Marc Bouchard on a bargain deal?) -- would be most welcome. Returning Defence Player Rating GP G A PTS CF% Cap Hit Alexei Emelin 64.24 59 3 14 17 44.4% $4.1M Josh Gorges 62.63 66 1 13 14 45.2% $3.9M Free Agent Defence Player Rating GP G A PTS CF% Class 13-14 Cap Hit P.K. Subban 77.83 82 10 43 53 49.9% RFA $2.875M Andrei Markov 72.68 81 7 36 43 49.4% UFA $5.75M Francis Bouillon 60.72 52 2 4 6 43.8% UFA $1.5M Mike Weaver 59.39 72 1 12 13 49.1% UFA $1.1M Douglas Murray 56.12 53 0 2 2 41.4% UFA $1.5M Coming back from knee surgery, Alexei Emelin had a bit of a tough year, with poor possession stats, though he was starting a lot of shifts in the defensive zone against quality opposition. Hes physical and isnt afraid to mix it up with opposing forwards, but the Canadiens need Emelin to be better and its fair to expect that, with good health, he will be better than he was in 2013-2014. Josh Gorges gets the tough minutes on the Montreal blueline, facing quality opponents and starting the majority of his shifts in the defensive zone. He missed some time with a broken hand last season, but hes generally quite durable for a defensive defenceman who blocks shots regularly and has played more than 21 minutes per game for the past five seasons. The straw that stirs the proverbial drink in Montreal, P.K. Subban is up for a new contract and should get paid in a big way after taking a bridge deal the last time his contract came due. After scoring a career-high 53 points, while playing a career-high 24:37 per game during the regular season, before leading the Canadiens in playoff scoring, with 14 points in 17 games. He might make the occasional highlight-reel gaffe, but Subban drives the play for Montreal; they need him. There is room for significant turnover on the Montreal defence. While there appears to be interest in bringing back veteran free agent Mike Weaver, it gets more complicated with Andrei Markov, a 35-year-old who had a solid season, but has clearly lost a step. If Markov wants a three-year contract, its possible he would find that on the open market, from a team needing a top pair defenceman, but that could give the Canadiens second thoughts when they are already preparing for Subbans new deal. Prospects Nathan Beaulieu, Jarred Tinordi and Greg Pateryn could have really good opportunities to join the Montreal defence full-time, but free agency or trades could be important to rounding out the group. A lot will depend on how the Subban and Markov situations shake out. Over the past four seasons, Price has a .920 save percentage, which ranks fourth among goaltenders to play at least 150 games, but hes also one season removed from a .905 save percentage, so more time north of .920 would be just fine from the Canadiens perspective. With a .910 save percentage in 54 games over three seasons with Montreal, Peter Budaj has been a solid backup for Price; not playing very much, but providing adequate rest for the starter. When Price got hurt in the playoffs, though, the Canadiens turned to Dustin Tokarski, and with Tokarski requiring waivers to get sent to the AHL next season, there may be a decision to make regarding who gets to spell Price next season. Hes promising, but also 21-years-old, so he shouldnt be rushed, but Beaulieu also showed well enough in limited ice time for the Habs in the playoffs. A forward with good size and skill that was a second-round pick last summer, Jacob De La Rose hasnt scored much playing against men in Sweden, but has shown in international play that he can produce in an offensvie role. The 19-year-old has signed with Montreal and will get an opportunity to adjust to the North American game. Also a second-round pick last summer, Zachary Fucale is a highly-regarded goaltending prospect, but hasnt had a dominant statistical season through three years as a starter in the QMJHL. Fucale is a 19-year-old goaltender, though, which leaves lots of time and lots of room for improvement. Like Beaulieu, Jarred Tinordi has played sheltered minutes in his 30 NHL games, but hasnt looked out of place and while his puck skills can improve, its safe enough to project Tinordi in a defensive role. If all goes right, the 2010 first-rounder could play shutdown minutes in the top four. Drafted in the fifth round in 2012, Charles Hudon is an industrious winger who can create a bit of offence and could use some time to get stronger before he is considered for a spot in Montreal. Acquired from Tampa Bay for Cedrick Desjardins, Dustin Tokarski is a little small (5-foot-11) as NHL goaltenders go, but he played well in the playoffs and has a .912 save percentage in 235 AHL Games, which is good enough to get consideration for a backup role. Last summers first-round pick, Michael McCarron had trouble generating offence in his first OHL season, but hes something of a project, a 6-foot-6 winger with a massive frame. If he can improve his skating and pick up his production next season, that would ease some doubts created by his 2013-2014 season. A third-round pick last summer, Sven Andrighetto is a smallish Swiss-born winger who was a productive scorer in the QMJHL, putting up 204 points in 133 (regular season plus playoff) games and made a smooth transition to pro hockey. Picked in the fourth round last year, Martin Reway is an undersized winger who has 139 points in 109 (regular season plus playoff) QMJHL games over the past two seasons. The 19-year-old will play for Sparta Praha in the KHL next season, but is worth keeping tabs on because of his offensive talent. Acquired from Toronto in a trade for Mikhail Grabovski in 2008, Greg Pateryn is now knocking on the door for an NHL job after scoring 15 goals in his second AHL season. He wasnt a big scorer at the University of Michigan, but has good size and a big shot. Taken in the third round in 2012, Tim Bozon is a winger with good finishing touch who endured a meningitis scare this year and has just returned to the ice. He scored 105 goals in three WHL seasons and while he likely needs time to get back up to speed and strength, hell be intriguing to follow. A second-round pick in 2012, Dalton Thrower isnt the biggest defenceman, but plays an aggressive game and has some puck skills that will give him a chance to develop into an asset on the Habs blueline. An offensive defenceman that returned to Sweden after starting the year (1 G, 7 A, -9, 16 GP) in Hamilton, Magnus Nygren is a 24-year-old who has 52 points (25 G, 27 A) in 76 games in Sweden over the past couple seasons. Daniel Carr, a free agent signed out of Union College after scoring 157 points in 160 points over four seasons with the Skating Dutchmen, is also worth keeping an eye on. Canadiens advanced stats and player usage chart from Extra Skater DRAFT 26th - Travis Sanheim, Nickolay Goldobin, Nick Schmaltz, Connor Bleackley.   Pittsburgh. With 13 goals in the past

The curling landscape shifted dramatically over the last month of the 2013-2014 season. When Kevin Martin and Jennifer Jones won the season-ending Players Championship, many rinks – especially on the mens side – had played their last game together. A legend retired, a skip left his Brier-winning team, old friends reunited and the best stayed together. With this being an Olympic year, many curlers felt it was necessary to join a new squad at seasons end in order to have a better shot at competing in the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. With all the changes, which rink do you think is the favourite going into next season and beyond? Lets start from the beginning. Going into the mens world championships in Beijing, China earlier this month, Canadian champion Kevin Koe announced that he was leaving his team to join a new rink next season, comprised of Marc Kennedy and Ben Hebert from Martins team as well as Brent Laing from Glenn Howards rink. This group is an interesting one. They definitely have a lot of experience as Kennedy and Hebert won Olympic gold with Martin back in 2010, while Laing captured world titles as Howards second in 2007 and 2012. Laing and Hebert will remain in their familiar positions, but Kennedy will be bumped up to third stones after spending the last 11 years throwing in the two hole. Is Koe the favourite despite a third who has never played the position professionally? As a result of his team finding new homes and – more importantly – a lack of desire to devote four years to an Olympic run, curling legend Kevin Martin retired at seasons end. Martin played 26 seasons, racking up four Briers, one world championship and, of course, Olympic gold in 2010. Pat Simmons, Carter Rycroft and Nolan Thiessen will return to the Brier in 2015 as Team Canada after winning the national championship this season with Koe at the helm. With Koe jumping ship, the threesome were able to convince John Morris to join them as their skip. Morris had previously skipped Jim Cotter, Tyrel Griffith and Rick Sawatsky to the finals at the 2014 Brier where they lost to Koe.  The 35-year-old, who had planned to take a year off from curling unless a good opportunity presented itself, will play a limited schedule due to work commitments next season. Hes a two-time Brier champion (2008, 2009), a world champion (2008) and an Olympic champion (2010). Will Morris be able to keep this team back at the same level? Another veteran skip on the Grand Slam circuit also made news recently. Glenn Howard, 51, will reunite with an old friend next year, as Richard Hart will come out of retirement to play third. The pair were able to capture a Brier and world championship together back in 2007 before Hart decided to leave the game in 2011. Howard is also bringing in Jon Mead to replace Laing at second after he played third for Jeff Stoughtons rink for the past five seasons. Craig Savill will remain the teams lead. After a disappointing year for Howard, will there be a revival of past success with these changes in 2014-2015? Then there is Jeff Stoughton, who had his entire team leave him this season. Mead went to Howard, Mark Nichols left to throw third stones for Brad Gushue (they won Olympic gold in 2006 together) and Reid Carruthers will skip his own squad next year. With Morris taking the Team Canada position, Stoughton had to start from scratch. According to the Winnipeg Free Press, the 50-year-olds new rink will be comprised of Rob Fowler at third, Alex Forrest at second and Connor Njegovan at lead. Can Stoughton surprise some people with this new group? One of the few teams that is staying pat is Brad Jacobs Sault Ste. Marie rink. The foursome is coming back for another shot at Olympic glory. Will they continue to roll or will an Olympic hangover set in after reaching the top of the sport at such a young age? As seen above, Gushue will have a new/old look next year. Does he have what it takes to get back to the top of the sport with the move? Then theres a few under-the-radar teams that may surprise some people. Is there a chance Mike McEwen, who finished atop the money standings this season, Jim Cotter, John Epping or Steve Laycock could make some noise on the curling circuit? It should be an interesting season of rock throwing next winter. With all the changes, which rink do you think is the favourite as we prepare for another run at Olympic gold? As always, its Your! Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed on what could be the final contract for the big German. A person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Thursday that Nowitzki would get a three-year contract worth roughly $30 million. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced. New contracts cant be signed until next Thursday. The 36-year-old Nowitzki is taking a big pay cut with a contract similar in value and structure to the one Tim Duncan signed with San Antonio two years ago. Duncan, who also took a much lower salary, is exercising a player option to return for the final season of his deal after helping the Spurs win their fifth title since 1999. Nowitzki just completed a four-year deal worth $80 million, and he left money on the table in that deal hoping the Mavericks could get some pieces around him. The pursuit of other stars is even more urgent with Nowitzki getting close to the end of what figures to be a Hall-of-Fame career. The 2011 NBA Finals MVP put off finalizing the deal until after the Mavericks met with free agent Carmelo Anthony, which happened Wednesday night. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban recently acknowledged that he couldnt offer Anthony a max contract, so Dallas figures to be stressing the 2011 title led by coach Rick Carlisle, Nowitzki and centre Tyson Chandler, who recently rejoined the team in a trade with the New York Knicks. If the Mavericks miss out on Anthony, there are a number of other small forwards on their wish list, topped by Houstons Chandler Parsons. He is a restricted free agent, and the Rockets can match any offer. Dallas also wants to re-sign point guard Devin Harris, and will target several others at that position if Harris goes elsewhere. Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Bianco Nero . FIFA said the suspension was requested by ethics prosecutor Michael Garcia, making Beckenbauer the first person to be punished as a result of the case. Beckenbauer refused "repeated requests for his assistance, including requests that he provide information during an in-person interview or in response to written questions provided in both English and German," FIFA said in a statement. Garcia had eight birdies overall to go with a lone bogey on the fourth to move to an 18-under total of 198 at the Asian Tour event. "I was able to hit some really nice shots and then was able to roll two or three really good putts in and it was nice to be able to finish birdie, birdie on this difficult finishing stretch," Garcia said. The Dallas Cowboys are releasing Kyle Orton after their backup quarterback missed all the off-season workouts amid reports he was considering retirement. A person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the Cowboys were cutting ties with Orton slightly more than a week before the start of training camp. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the decision. The 31-year-old Orton started the finale last year after Tony Romo injured his back a week earlier. The Cowboys lost to Philadelphia, their third straight season-ending defeat against an NFC East rival with a playoff berth on the line. The new backup is likely to be Brandon Weeden, Clevelands first-round draft pick in 2012. The Cowboys signed Weeden in March, and he worked with the first team during the off-season while Romo continued his recovery from back surgery. Orton was fined about $70,000 for failing to report during the off-season and missing the mandatory minicamp in June. The move saves DDallas about $3.dddddddddddd25 million this season, but will cost the team about that amount on the salary cap over the next two seasons. After getting into just one game in his first season with the Cowboys in 2012, Orton played briefly in two games last year before starting against the Eagles. He was 30 of 46 for 358 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions against Philadelphia, including one late that clinched the Eagles 24-22 win. Orton has started 70 of 75 games in a nine-year career. He spent his first three seasons in Chicago before going to Denver, where he lost the starting job to Tim Tebow and signed with Kansas City after the Broncos cut him during the season. Weeden started right away after the Browns took him with the 22nd pick, but was benched for good late in his second season with a career record of 5-15, including losses in all five starts in 2013. Weeden turns 31 in October but is going into just his third season because he spent five years playing professional baseball out of high school. MILWAUKEE -- Ryan Braun hadnt done much except get hit by a pitch. He made up for it with one swing in the bottom of the ninth. Braun was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning that scored a run and had an RBI single in the ninth, lifting the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. "I got beat up pretty good," Braun said. "Ill take it. Ill take them both." Braun thought the Rockies might pitch around him. He had already struck out twice and grounded out while Jonathan Lucroy had two hits and a RBI. "Typically, there is probably a higher likelihood that they pitch around me," Braun said. "I have been swinging so terribly and Luc has been swinging so great that that combination probably enticed them to at least come at me a little bit." Rockies manager Walt Weiss told reliever Matt Belisle to pitch carefully to Braun, but the strategy didnt work. "Ill always take responsibility for that one," Walt Weiss said. "Could have put him on. Its a tough situation for Mattie. Hes trying to get him to expand for a couple of pitches. The ball was maybe a little up. Braun went up and got it." Mark Reynolds led off the ninth with a single off Belisle (2-3) and advanced on a sacrifice by Jean Segura. Scooter Gennett pinch hit for Francisco Rodriguez (3-2) and was intentionally walked. The runners advanced on a passed ball by catcher Michael McKenry. After Rickie Weeks went down swinging, Braun drilled Belisles first pitch up the middle. "I dont think they were trying to throw it where he ended up throwing it," Braun said after collecting his first walk-off hit since 2011. Josh Rutledge tied the game when he homered off Rodriguez with one out in the ninth. Rutledge hit a 3-2 pitch that just barely cleared the wall in left for his second homer this season. Rodriguez was trying to help Kyle Lohse win his third straight start. Lohse has been victimized by five blown saves this season. He allowed one run on seven hits over seven innings and came within two outs of beating the Rockies for the second time in five days. Sunday, he pitched five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits in the Brewers 6-5 win in Colorado. Rodriguez leads the majorss with 27 saves, but this was his third blown save this season.dddddddddddd Lohse had plenty of sympathy for Rodriguez. "I feel bad for K-Rod because hes been pitching so well, but the bottom line is we won," Lohse said. "He came in and did what he does. Ill take K-Rod closing out one of my games any time." The Brewers became the first team in the majors to record 50 wins. Their NL-leading record (50-32) is the best in team history through 82 games. They have 13 games left to top the team record of 54 wins before the All-Star game. The Brewers also improved to 5-0 in the season series with the Rockies. "Its nice to be the first one to 50 wins, for sure," Braun said. "Were excited with the way that weve played so far, but theres still a lot of baseball left." The Brewers went ahead 2-1 in the seventh. Khris Davis doubled off Nick Masset to start the inning and Reynolds followed with a walk. Both advanced on a sacrifice by Segura. When Lyle Overbay was announced as the pinch hitter for Lohse, the Rockies brought in Rex Brothers. The Brewers countered with Martin Maldonado, who struck out swinging. After Weeks walked, Adam Ottavino came on to face Braun and hit him with the first pitch. Lucroy hit into a fielders choice for the third out. The Rockies scored their run in the seventh on a sacrifice by pinch-hitter Brandon Barnes that scored Rutledge. The Brewers scored first when Lucroy chopped an RBI single over second base off rookie Tyler Matzek in the sixth. Matzek went six innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out three. NOTES: The Rockies challenged the call when Carlos Gomez was ruled safe at second in the eighth inning. The decision was reversed in under 2 minutes. . Rockies C Wilin Rosario, who left Thursday nights game with lower back tightness, missed the game. Weiss said that the injury was not serious, but enough to keep him out of the lineup. . Rockies RHP Nolan Arenado (broken left middle finger) heads to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Sunday for a rehab assignment. . The Pittsburgh Penguins will try to grab their first lead of the second round on Monday when the series shifts to New York City for Game 3 at Madison Square Garden. This best-of-seven set is tied at one game apiece. The Rangers opened the series with Fridays 3-2 overtime win in Pittsburgh, but the Penguins rebounded with a 3-0 victory Sunday in the Steel City. New York went 20-17-4 at Madison Square Garden during the regular season and posted a 2-1 record on home ice against Philadelphia in the opening round. The Rangers, of course, eliminated the Flyers with a 2-1 Game 7 victory at MSG on Wednesday. Pittsburgh and the Rangers split a pair of meeting in New York this season, but the Pens have claimed five of the last seven regular-season encounters in the Big Apple. Marc-Andre Fleury anchored Sundays home win over the Rangers, making 22 saves to set a franchise record with his seventh career playoff shutout. Pittsburghs frequently criticized netminder also picked up his 50th career postseason win, becoming the 17th goalie in league history to reach the milestone. "He was very good tonight," Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma said of Fleury. "The calmness and how he made the saves ... It made it feel like it wasnt as many (chances). But the puck was in the crease a little bit and he played it really well. He deserved the shutout tonight." Kris Letang was credited with a goal and collected assists on third-period goals by Jussi Jokinen and Evgeni Malkin. Letangs goal was the 15th of his postseason career, tying Larry Murphy for the most by a defenseman in franchise history. Pittsburgh won despite giving the Rangers three power-play opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Pens killed off the three early penalties and New York finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play. "Maybe the penalty killers set the tone for us," said Bylsma. "Maybe it was them stepping over the boards in those situations. You are not happy about having to kill three in a row but they do a great job for us and I thought, to a man, our players were extremely good tonight." Sidney Crosby is still without a goal in eight playoff games this spring, but the Penguins star captain did register six shots on net in Game 2. Crosby, who has 40 career postseason goals, has gone 13 straight games in the playoffs without scoring. He has six assists in this postseason. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 32 shots for New York, which has now failed to score on 29 straight opportunities with the power play. The Blueshirts are just 3- for-37 with the man advantage in this postseason. "Power play had some looks," Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault said. "Could have given us momentum, we didnt finish. Power play ultimately is my responsibility, and Ive got to find the right trigger points here to make it work and spend the night trying to figure it out." New York is aiming for its first playoff series win against Pittsburgh, which has won all four previous postseason meetings. The Pens boast a 17-5 all-time record against the Rangers in the playoffs and a 7-2 mark at the Garden. Overall, the Rangers have won seven of nine and 12 of their last 17 home playoff games. Pittsburgh defenseman Brooks Orpik has missed three straight games for Pittsburgh with an undisclosed injury and expects to sit out again on Monday. Orpik has been sidelined since missing Game 6 against Columbus in the opening round and Robert Bortuzzo has filled in for him. The Rangers will also host Game 4 of this set on Wednesday before the series heads back to Pittsburgh for Fridays Game 5. Adidas Springblade 3 .C. Lions. They broke from the No. 5 post, the same position hell start the 140th edition of the race with early 5-2 favourite California Chrome. "Hopefully, thats my lucky number," Espinoza said Wednesday. Eight horses have won from there, most recently Funny Cide in 2003. "I think its a perfect spot," trainer Art Sherman said. "I think we break clean, hell get out of a lot of trouble. Hes got a little gas leaving there." At 77, Sherman could become the oldest trainer to win the Derby, surpassing Charlie Whittinghams record of 76 when Sunday Silence won in 1989. California Chrome comes into the Derby having won his last four starts by a combined 24 1/4 lengths. "Just an amazing horse to ride," Espinoza said. "I let him do his own thing and I think he likes that." Hoppertunity was made the 6-1 second choice in the full field of 20 horses. Hoppertunity, who lost to California Chrome in the Santa Anita Derby, drew the No. 11 post for the race Saturday at Churchill Downs. Hes trained by Bob Baffert, a three-time Derby winner with two starters. "Other than California Chrome, whos proven hes a really good horse, theres a lot of horses in there that are pretty close," Baffert said. "Theres a lot of parity in this field." His other horse, Chitu, is a 20-1 long shot that drew the No. 13 post. Wicked Strong, named for the victims of last years Boston Marathon bombings, is the 8-1 third choice and will break from the 20th post on the far outside. He and the No. 10 horse, Wildcat Red, will be last ones loaded into the starting gate, so they wont be in there very long. Some trainers dont like the No. 20 post because their horse is on the far outside and has to quickly make its way over toward the rail to save ground. Calvin Borel will break from the No. 19 post aboard Ride On Curlin. The jockey nicknamed "Bo-rail" for his love of riding along the rail has won three Derbies since 2007, and hell have to hustle his horse over quickly to snag his favourite position. California Chrome, Hoppertunity and Wicked Strong were the only horses listed at single digits by Chhurchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia.dddddddddddd Danza is the 10-1 fourth choice and drew the No. 4 post. Hes one of four horses trained by Todd Pletcher. The others are: Intense Holiday, 12-1; Vinceremos, 30-1; and We Miss Artie, 50-1. "We made out well," Pletcher said. "It doesnt matter where you draw, youre just looking for a clean trip." Mike Maker will saddle a trio of horses: General a Rod, 15-1; Harrys Holiday, 50-1; and Vicars In Trouble, a 30-1 shot that drew the dreaded No. 1 post. Rosie Napravnik will be aboard Vicars In Trouble trying to become the first female jockey to win the Derby. She was fifth last year with Mylute, the highest finish by a woman in history. Napravnik watched the draw from the jockeys room at the track. "I was just kind of shocked, being the first one drawn," she said. "Vicars real sharp out of the gate and I think hell be able to get in good position. Theres been plenty of winners out of the one-hole, so Vicars not in trouble yet." Eight horses have won from the first spot in the starting gate, but none since Ferdinand in 1986. Most trainers despise the No. 1 hole because their horse starts next to the rail and could get pinched going into the crowded first turn. The starting gate is loaded two horses at a time, and the first ones to go in will be Vicars In Trouble and No. 11 Hoppertunity, meaning theyll have the longest wait while the rest of the field is loaded. "Hes a pretty cool, calm horse so he should be fine in there," Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith said about Hoppertunity. Hoppertunity didnt race as a 2-year-old, setting him up for a chance to break one of the Derbys oldest jinxes: no horse since Apollo in 1882 has won the Derby without racing at 2. The No. 10 post has produced the most Derby winners with nine, most recently in 2005, when Smith won with 50-1 shot Giacomo. Wildcat Red, trained by Jose Garrafalo, landed in that spot this time. The other 50-1 shot in the race is Commanding Curve, who will break from the No. 17 post. The 21st horse on the points list is Pablo Del Monte, an also eligible who would need a defection before 9 a.m. Friday, when Derby wagering opens, to get into the $2.2 million race. England players will be given greater confidence on the pitch under Sam Allardyce, says his former assistant manager Neil McDonald. Allardyces appointment was finally confirmed just before 4pm on Friday after a compensation deal was agreed with Sunderland.McDonald worked alongside Allardyce as first-team coach at Bolton and was his assistant manager at Blackburn and West Ham and he backs his former colleague to get England playing well as a team. Hell bring the confidence out of the players, he told Sky Sports News HQ.Theyll certainly have a role and responsibility, theyll have an idea on what distances, what fitness stats, how many passes theyre going to make and when theyre going to make it.But at the same time [hell get the players] to express themselves because theyre good players and thats why they play for England. McDonald (L) has worked with Allardyce at Bolton, Blackburn and West Ham McDonald, who was last assistant to Allardyce from 2011 to 2015 at West Ham, says he would love the opportunity to be re-united with the 61-year-old at the national level. He added: Yes it would be great [to work with Allardyce again]. Working with him is a pleasure, he lets you get on with your job. Over the last few years theyve had that success and it would be great to work with him again.Michael Ricketts believes Allardyce has all the attributes needed to be a success as England manager - and insists his reputation for using long-ball tactics is unfair. Allardyces appointment was announced on Friday afternoon once compensation had been agreed with Sunderland Striker Ricketts spent three years playing under Allardyce at Bolton between 2000 and 2003, with the one-cap England international scoring 46 goals in his two-and-a-half years at the club.Allardyce moves into the national role with his tactics at times perceived by some as a negative but Ricketts is adamant he is more versatile than he is credited for.The 37-year-old said: Everyone talks about his style of football but football is all about winning and England want a winning team. When he was at Bolton he had (Youri) Djorkaeff, a World Cup winner. He had Jay-Jay Okocha, an absolute flair player. Michael Ricketts says theres more to Allardyce than a long-ball game Hes been at other clubs and had flair players there too so its not just about the long ball. I think the long ball tag has been with him such a long time hes never going to get away from it.But I just dont think that applies in football nowadays anyway. Obviously they talk about man-management and I think the main thing about Sam is he is a very good man-manager.Tactically, he is very aware. He knows how to set up and put out a team and knows how to combat teams who are offensively against him.   Argonauts. The 2014 season will kick off
Posted by: zgr123 - 07-24-2017, 02:32 AM - Forum: vESPrino - No Replies

In its latest installment, UFC 169 will take place in Newark, New Jersey with two titles on the line. This is a shot at redemption for Urijah Faber, his chance to win a title fight. Its also a massive proving ground for Jose Aldo, not that he needs it. If Aldo can pick up the victory, he will be at nearly a decade without defeat. He isnt even 27; his talent will only increase over the next few years. There is also a bout in the heavyweight division with Alistair Overeem facing Frank Mir. On paper it sounds like a great matchup but will need a dramatic ending or tense action packed rounds in order for people to be talking about it the next day. Here are the UFC 169 picks from the team at TSN 1290s the “Weigh In”. Jordan Cieciwa, Big Marv and Toby… thats right, just Toby. Catch us on air every Saturday at 11:30am ct/12:30pm et. Renan Barao (31-1-0) vs. Urijah Faber (30-6-0) Jordan Cieciwa Who doesnt love a big title fight? Well if you are Uriah Faber, history says you actually may not. His only losses came at the hands of champions. There are few people in the game as talented as him, especially when it comes to wrestling and the use of unorthodox strikes. Hes shown unbelievable skill with elbows off the cage and spinning back fists. His ability to target is second to none. Thats only gotten better with the addition of Duane ‘Bang Ludwig. Across the cage from him is the very dangerous Renan Barao. Barao came out of obscurity to start dismantling his competition in both the WEC and UFC. He is on nearly a decade long win streak. Ask anyone, except Eddie Wineland, and theyll say he is a submission specialist. He beat Wineland very quickly and with an amazing back kick to start the process. His talent is unquestioned now, and his ability to push the pace will make him hard to beat. So much so that I dont think “The California Kid” can do it. Barao via fourth round submission Big Marv You could make the argument that Urijah Faber was the fighter of the year in 2013.  He went 4-0 last year, with only one of his fights going the distance. Even that fight, against Yuri Alcantara, was a dominant decision for Faber.  In fact the last time Faber lost was to Renan Barao in 2012. Since then, the California Kid has been more determined than ever. With an incredible improvement in striking thanks to Alpha Males new coach Duane “Bang” Ludwig. However, lets not sleep on the champ. Renan Barao took that interim title with his win over Faber and has staked his claimed as not only the 135lb king, but also in the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the world.  It is so hard to pick a winner here. Will Faber choke again in a championship fight situation? I say not this time. Urijah Faber via unanimous decision Toby This one should be an amazing fight! Faber had an outstanding 2013 and will look to finally become a UFC Champion, all that stands in his way is Renan Barao, who has the longest current unbeaten streak in active MMA today (33). This has fight of the night potential and as much as Id like to see “The California Kid” becoming the UFC champ I believe Renan Barao will have his hand raised in this one. Renan Barao via decision Jose Aldo (23-1-0) vs. Ricardo Lamas (13-2-0) JC What were you doing when you were 18? If you were an 18-year-old Jose Aldo, you were suffering your last MMA loss. At 27, Aldo has been on a nearly nine-year win streak. Most of those wins are while holding the UFC featherweight title. He is perhaps one of the sharpest fighters in the game. Fortunately, he isnt talked about all that often because it seems to have kept him hungry.  Aldo will probably keep this fight standing and use some amazing leg kicks to slow his opponent down. Though let it be known that Ricardo Lamas is no slouch either.   Lamas is on a four-fight win streak of his own and looked great stopping Cub Swanson with a triangle choke and Erik Koch with elbows. The good news for fans, both these athletes stop fights including Aldo who has a 30% decision rate. That to me is fantastic. I think that, in combination with his skill level, will have this fight ending sometime in the fourth round. We will be treated to a lot of leg kicks and some great movement and skill on display. Jose Aldo via fourth round TKO Toby After watching Jose Aldo fight for the past couple of years Ive learned two things, he is without a doubt one of the best pound for pound fighters in MMA and its hard to bet against him. Ricardo Lamas is a real threat but I see Aldo getting his hand raised and us fans being one step closer to an Aldo vs. Pettis super fight. Jose Aldo via TKO BM Jose Aldo is one of those champions that just seems infallible. His striking is fast and vicious, his ground and pound is relentless, he has slick jiu jitsu and is almost impossible to take down. All of that adds up to him being one of the best in the world pound-for-pound. However, his opponent Ricardo Lamas has this crazy habit of winning fights he shouldnt.  Sorry Toby, weve got to put the Aldo vs. Pettis super fight on hold, Lamas is taking this one. Ricardo Lamas via TKO round 4. Frank Mir (16-8-0) vs. Alistair Overeem (36-13-0) JC This is one of those fights that really means very little in the heavyweight division, but will be interesting to watch. I have a very bad feeling it will end in the first round with a toe hold, but who knows, Mir might try to show off his “highly average” boxing skills. Lets face it, Alistair Overeem comes into this fight with a bad rap for using drugs (very deserved), and being a one sided fighter. Overeem has no business being in the cage with a jujitsu whiz like Frank Mir. Mir is also not afraid to end a fight with an “uncool” submission. He grabbed Brock Lesnars toe and threatened to break it. The loser of this fight probably wont have much longer in the UFC, and I dont know that its a bad thing. The winner probably wont ever contend for a title, but at least they dont have to retire or go find work somewhere else. Its a simple case of a very impressive K-1 specialist in Overeem, meeting up with a jujitsu guy that will take the submission anyway he can. I expect that Mir will find and exploit the very large weakness that is Overeems ground game. Mir via second round submission. BM Both these guys are desperate for a win.  With Overeem, he beat up Bigfoot for two rounds before his cockiness got the best of him.  Against Travis Browne, he almost finished him, but Brown proved too tough and Overeem got caught.  In Frank Mirs last fight, he was slow and Barnet destroyed him quickly.  Against Cormier, he was slow and lost by decision.  The difference between the two, Overeem still has it, while it looks like Mir does not.  Plus, Mir wont be able to weather the early storm like Silva or Browne.  Its going to be an early night for both men. Alistair Overeem via KO round 1 Toby This is a possible “Loser leaves town” fight, with both fighters coming off consecutive losses Mir (3) Overeem (2). Overeem has lost some weight which will help his cardio, I love watching both of these guys fight but in this case I believe Overeems stand-up will be the difference on Saturday.   former Hearts stopper made a fingertip
Posted by: zgr123 - 07-24-2017, 02:30 AM - Forum: vESPrino - No Replies

Here are five thoughts on the Eastern Conference first-round series between the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets following Game 5, including the play of Kyle Lowry, Joe Johnson, Kevin Garnet and Paul Pierce, as well as head coaches Jason Kidd and Dwane Casey. 1. KYLE LOWRY: Brilliant in Game 5. Watching him Wednesday night brought me back to watching Allen Iverson torch the Raptors in the 2001 playoffs. Considering Lowry is a Philly guy and one of the guys he looked up to as a young player was Iverson, I couldnt help myself but to draw comparisons. A totally different players but one quality that truly makes them alike is that they are both incredible competitors. Not the size of the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog. In the last five quarters of play (Game 4, 4th quarter and Game 5), other than the magic of Vince Carter, I cant recall a better stretch of play ever from a Raptor on so many fronts. Enjoy it - Im mesmerized by it. 2. JOE JOHNSON: Give him credit. Major bounce-back in the second half of Game 5. He was close to unstoppable. Raptors did everything they could to contain/control him and he was that much better. Im sure a significant focus of game planning for Game 6 will centre on tightening the screws on both the individual coverages associated with him and the collective scheme based upon the help you have to give his defender. He is an absolute load. Im so impressed by his talent. 3. RAPTORS FIRST THREE QUARTERS VS. 4TH QUARTER: It looked like five guys stole Raptors shirts early in the 4th and tried to imitate the real guys. In the first three quarters we saw the Raptors at their truly best - ball movement, defensive energy, effort, discipline and most importantly, a collective will and confidence that the crowd fed off of. In the fourth, we saw a team that cruised and thought it would be easy and let up with its focus. Very fortunate that they hung on, yet when I reflect on it for the majority of the game they were far better, which is good. Now its about learning from that lesson and growing. Remember back in early December at Golden State? It was the Raptors biggest collapse in franchise history and lost to the Warriors. This time, a huge collapse as well - the difference - they won and won on a much more meaningful stage than the stage back in Oakland. Speaking of Oakland, the late Al Davis (Oakland Raiders) would say just win, baby! They did. One to go but it wont be easy. Their competition has lots to play for; it should be a major challenge and lots of fun to watch. 4. KG AND PAUL PIERCE: They were spectators Wednesday night in the 4th quarter and Im sure both men will be ready to go Friday night in response to that. I dont think there have been many times in either guys career that they sat and watched at crunch time. Im sure well see two angry/ornery guys in Brooklyn talking smack and challenging their teammates and the crowd to be at optimal level. Lots of folks piling on KG these days. I respect what hes done in his career. Is he the player he once was? No, but his effort and will to win are still there all the time. Pierce - Hes still got a lot left and his matchup at the four spot is still a tough cover for the Raptors, yet I do like that the Raps are now making him guard his guy and attacking him. Fully expect both guys to come out firing guns blazing. Be prepared. 5. JASON KIDD AND DWANE CASEY: Both coaches, Im sure, are working on their teams collective psyche as we enter Game 6. Kidd challenged his team before Game 5 to be much better in the 4th quarter after being outplayed by the Raps in Games 3 and 4 in the defining stanza. They were awesome in the 4th Wednesday night… the other three quarters, not so impressive. Im sure hes pushing momentum and carryover. Coach Casey will hammer the fact that you must sustain and play every possession at the max and learn/build on the fact that you won, yet have to respect the little details of the game. You also sell that momentum in a series that lasts only as long as you allow it to or make it happen. As much as the Nets want to sell that theyre now going to pick up where they left off, youve got to sell that the score always takes care of itself if you do the right things. You concentrate on doing the right things" each possession and youll find a way in Game 6, or if necessary, Game 7. Wont be easy to put Brooklyn away Friday but it can be done. Dictate the tone and personality of Game 6 right at the start. Winning/losing - thats too much sometimes to focus on. Dive into the details of what it takes to succeed and youll handle the pressure of a road game better. Adidas Ultra Boost Yeezy . The game got off to a less-than-ideal start for the Jets as Oliver Ekman-Larsson found a wide open net from the slot and opened the scoring for the Coyotes a lead in the first period, but Olli Jokinen answered back just over half a minute later. A composed finish from Colin Kazim-Richards gave the Hoops a half-time advantage, which was cancelled out by Abiola Dauda on 57 minutes, before Patrick Roberts and Leigh Griffiths secured the three points for the champions. The win left Celtic nine points clear of Aberdeen, who defeated Motherwell 4-1 later in the afternoon, but with the Hoops goal-difference of plus-55, it would take a seismic event for the Dons to snatch the title as they can only equal Celtics current points-tally by winning all their remaining three fixtures, while Ronny Deilas side would also have to lose all three of their matches by significant margins. Leigh Griffiths wrapped up a 3-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle Celtic were on the front foot from the start and had the ball in the net after 12 minutes when Roberts weaved his way into the box and tested Neil Alexander with a low drive which the goalkeeper could only parry, and Callum McGregor followed up to knock the ball over the line, only to be wrongly flagged offside. Two minutes later Nir Bitton threaded a pass to Roberts who again placed his shot to the keepers right from inside the box and was thwarted by Alexander, who then got up to tip the rebound from Griffiths over the bar. Reaction from both camps after Celtic all-but wrapped up their fifth succcessive Scottish Premiership title with a 3-1 victory over Hearts But Celtic made the breakthrough on 17 minutes with a move which started on the left side of the halfway line before the ball was worked to the right side of the Hearts box where Mlkael Lustig delivered a chip to the back post where Kazim-Richards controlled the ball on his chest and crashed his shot under Alexander from six yards.ddddddddddddGriffiths had a great chance to double the lead five minutes before the break when Prince Buabens shot was blocked by Bitton and the ball spun to the Celtic striker who raced forward from the halfway line and dispatched a shot from 20 yards which Alexander diverted wide with his legs. Callum McGregor had a goal wrongly disallowed at Tynecastle Hearts almost levelled the game three minutes after the break when Arnaud Djoum strode forward and hit a shot from 20 yards which deflected off Sviatchenko, and with the ball heading for the bottom left corner of Craig Gordons net the former Hearts stopper made a fingertip save. But Hearts continued to press and were rewarded when Dauda (57) collected the ball 10 yards inside the Celtic half before turning to drive through the visitors defence and send his low drive past Gordon from the edge of the box. Patrick Roberts restores Celtics lead in the 3-1 victory over Hearts Ten minutes later Lustig headed over the target from five yards with his back to goal after Sviatchenko flicked on a corner from Roberts as Celtic tried to regain the lead. And they did so 90 seconds later as Hearts dithered in defence with Alim Ozturk and Perry Kitchen playing poor passes before Roberts nicked the ball off John Souttar and showed terrific poise to slide his shot through the legs of the advancing Alexander.Celtic came close again when Kieran Tierney cut the ball back to Tom Rogic and he swept his first-time shot over the bar from 16 yards within a minute of appearing as a substitute. And Griffiths secured the victory five minutes from the end when he closed down a clearance from Soutter and then nutmegged the Hearts defender before beating Alexander at his near post with a low drive for his 30th league goal of the season. MIAMI -- Racing to beat a throw from centre field with the game on the line, Giancarlo Stanton slid and reached out with his left hand to tag the plate. Home sweet home. Stanton and the surprising Miami Marlins won another thriller in their ballpark Wednesday. Stanton scored on Marcell Ozunas one-out sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, and Miami beat the New York Mets 1-0. The Marlins completed a three-game sweep, finished 8-1 on their homestand and improved to 17-5 at home, best in the majors. "We have complete confidence," said Casey McGehee, who drew a key walk during the ninth-inning rally. "There was never a doubt in my mind we were going to get that game, no matter how long it took. Thats the way its supposed to be." The Marlins have won three of their past four games with walkoffs. "They put a lot of strain on guys hearts," said Tom Koehler, who pitched eight innings to match a career high. Koehler held the opposition without a run for the second start in a row, lowering his ERA to 1.99. Steve Cishek (3-1) pitched a perfect ninth to complete a two-hitter and the Marlins sixth shutout. "Nice way to finish the homestand," manager Mike Redmond said. While no team has been better at home, the Marlins 2-10 road record is the worst in the majors. They begin an 11-game, 11-day trip Thursday in San Diego. "Weve just got to keep playing," Redmond said. "Everybody has made a huge deal of the home-road split. But this team is starting to come together. I like exactly where were at right now. I like the energy and the chemistry. I cant wait to get out there." The Mets were swept despite allowing only eight runs in the series. They batted .157, scored three runs and were shut out in the final 23 innings. "They have great young pitchers," manager Terry Collins said. "They can really pitch. You just have to really apply yourself at the plate. Were just not swinging the way you hope to." The Mets scoreless streak is their longest since July 2010 Miami couldnt muster much offence either. Stanton singled for their third hit to start the ninth against Carlos Torres (2-1). McGehee walked on a 3-2 pitch, and Stanton took third on a flyout by Garrett Jones. Kyle Farnsworth replaced Torres, and Ozuna, who had struck out in his previous three at-bats, hit a fly to centre fielder Juan Lagares. His throw home was wide of the plate, and the ball skipped away from catcher Anthony Recker as Stanton scored. "The throw was a little bit more off line than wed like," Recker said. "It was one of those do-or-die plays, and I wasnt able to come up with it." Stanton quickly rose to join the mob scene gathering around Ozuna, while Redmond remained in the dugout watching the video scoreboard as a movie clip showed Mrs. Doubtfire dancing with a broom. He suggested the clip to celebrate series sweeps. "When I came here last year, I made sure she -- well, he -- whatever -- I made sure when we swept a team, Mrs. Doubtfire was up on the big board," he said. New York wasted a fine effort by Zack Wheeler, who walked five in six innings but allowed only two hits. He also went 0 for 2 with a strikeout at the plate, leaving Mets pitchers at 0 for 58 this season with 31 strikeouts. The Mets lost for the sixth time in their past seven games and went 2-6 on a three-city trip. The walkoff loss was their seventh at Marlins Park, which opened in 2012. "It has been very difficult," Wheeler said. "We havent played well this series. Its a tough road trip, but I think we have a good group of guys, and I think we can turn it around when we get back home." NOTES: Mets LHP Scott Rice was unavailable in relief because of a sore back. ... On an 85-degree afternoon, the retractable roof was closed after being open the previous two games. ... Stantons bat broke when he grounded into a double play in the sixth. The barrel flew into the stands and slammed against an empty seat, and Stanton crossed first base still holding the handle. ... The Mets play 16 of their next 19 games at home, starting Friday when Jenrry Mejia (3-0, 5.23) is scheduled to start for them against Philadelphias Roberto Hernandez (2-1, 4.50). ... The Marlins begin an 11-game trip, their longest of the season, Thursday at San Diego with Jacob Turner (0-0, 9.90) scheduled to start against the Padres Ian Kennedy (2-4, 3.43). "Hes over there," the first baseman said. "You dont need to talk to anybody else." Indeed, Peralta did it all as the majors top team won again. Mehdi Benatia Bayern Munich Jersey . Sixteen teams have moved on. Sixteen teams have gone home. Julian Green Bayern Munich Jersey . -- Its been 21 years since Joe Gibbs Racing celebrated its only Daytona 500 victory.Emmanuel Adebayor is relaxed over his contract situation with Crystal Palace, but says he would be happy to stay at Selhurst Park. The forwards current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and he is yet to agree an extension that would keep him at Palace next season. Adebayor joined Palace in January after nearly five months without a club following his release from Tottenham, but has struggled to find any consistent goalscoring form, managing just one goal in 14 appearances.  I like the club and I like everything that is going on, he told Sky Sports News HQ. I am not the one to put any pressure on anybody to stay. If they want me to stay, well talk, discuss it and find an agreement. If not, life goes on and we continue moving. The players, we get along so well, they are cool with me and they accept me like a brother because of what Ive done and achieved in my career.  The Togo international has scored just one goal since signing for Palace So being here today with them is just beautiful for me and, even if I am not here next season, my wishes are for them to be in the top league and out there doing something special. Maybe not win the league, bbut finish in the top five or six because they have the quality to be up there.ddddddddddddIf Adebayor is not offered fresh terms to stay at Palace, his final match for the club could come in the FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley on May 21. Victory over United would see Palace claim the first major domestic trophy in their history as well as a place in Europe next season.  Ledley out Joe Ledley will miss the FA Cup final after suffering a fractured leg And Palace chairman Steve Parish believes a win in the Wembley showpiece could help the club in their pursuit of summer transfer targets. A London club possibly in Europe, what a draw that would be, he said.Even if we dont make it, it puts us on the map being in the final and being in the Premier League for four years, so absolutely a great draw and I think well get some exciting players that want to come to the club.  Also See: Ledley to miss FA Cup final Gayle brace seals Palace safety Your clubs Player of the Year...
