AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had enough responsibility trying to contain James Harden at the defensive end. That made the Detroit guards offensive contribution that much more impressive.Caldwell-Pope scored a season-high 28 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, and the Pistons held off Harden and the Houston Rockets 114-101 on Saturday night. D.J. Augustin added 28 points and 12 assists for Detroit.I felt good, Caldwell-Pope said. I got myself going with my energy on the defensive end, ran the floor to get easy baskets and that opened up my outside shooting.Harden scored 21 of his 26 points in the second half, returning from a bruised left knee to help the Rockets nearly rally from a 21-point, third-quarter deficit.Houstons Josh Smith was booed throughout his return to the Palace, just more than a month after the Pistons waived the high-priced forward. He had seven points and seven rebounds, shooting only 3 of 11 from the field. Detroit snapped a four-game skid and ended Houstons four-game winning streak. We didnt defend the 3-point line and we didnt defend the paint. They just played a lot harder than we did, and we just let them kick our tails, Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. We couldnt stop Augustin in any part of the floor. I tried a couple different lineups because I just wanted someone to get in front of him for a couple possessions. The Pistons played well initially after cutting Smith, winning seven straight, and fans gave him an unfriendly welcome in his return, booing him when he went to the scorers table to check in for the first time and also when he touched the ball.Detroit led 59-46 at halftime and 86-69 at the start of the fourth quarter.Harden led a 19-6 run to start the fourth, but Caldwell-Pope made enough big shots down the stretch to help the Pistons hold on. The second-year guard capped the victory with a shot from well behind the 3-point line with 3.1 seconds remaining and the shot clock expiring.___BOUNCING BACKThe Pistons were coming off an embarrassing 20-point loss at Philadelphia, and they were sharp throughout against Houstons normally tough defence. Greg Monroe had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Andre Drummond had 11 and 16. Detroit won for the first time since losing point guard Brandon Jennings last weekend to a ruptured Achilles tendon.Augustin, the starting point guard with Jennings out, had one of his best games of the season.Yeah, I thought he was decent, coach Stan Van Gundy joked. No, he was tremendous. He really was. He was on the attack, right from the start of the game on, and thats big for us.DEFENSIVE PROBLEMSHouston was without star centre Dwight Howard, who has been sidelined because of swelling in his right knee. Harden left toward the end of the second quarter with his knee injury but came back and played almost the entire second half.No matter who was in, the Rockets couldnt slow down the Pistons.Terrible defence. They had 69 points in their last game against Philly and we let them have 60 at halftime, Harden said. Thats terrible. We didnt play at all until the fourth quarter, and that was too late. The Rockets lead the NBA in 3-pointers, but Detroit held its own from beyond the arc, going 10 of 25. Houston shot 11 of 32 on 3s.TIP-INSRockets: Donatas Motiejunas scored 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting. ... Harden had nine assists and seven rebounds.Pistons: Augustins 12 assists were his season high. ... Caldwell-Pope fell two points short of his career high in scoring. He made six 3-pointers.UP NEXTThe Rockets host Chicago on Wednesday night. The Pistons host Miami on Tuesday night. A five-run ninth inning against Giants closer Sergio Romo might just change how manager Walt Weisss club views its road trips to San Francisco. D.J. LeMahieu hit a tiebreaking single after going hitless in his first three at-bats, and the Rockies rallied to beat the Giants 7-4 on Friday night. "Its a tough place to play, not only for us but for everybody," said Weiss, whose club had dropped 15 of 18 at the Giants waterfront ballpark. "The Giants are always tough at home. To win a game like that, not only the first game of the series but the way we won it, (is) big for our club." The Rockies had gone five straight innings without a hit before scoring five times off Romo (3-2), who went into the night tied for most saves in the majors. Troy Tulowitzki had a leadoff single, but was replaced by Charlie Culberson after injuring his foot reaching first base. After Justin Morneau singled, Romo retired Wilin Rosario on a fly to centre field. He then intentionally walked Corey Dickerson to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Ryan Wheeler hit a two-run single before LeMahieus soft single to centre drove in Dickerson. "(Romo) does such a good job of keeping the ball down," Wheeler said. "Even the pitch I hit, I think it was a ball. I hit the barrel and it went up the middle." Michael McKenry added an RBI single off George Kontos, and LeMahieu scored while McKenry was caught in a rundown between first and second. Matt Belisle (1-2) pitched one inning for the win, and LaTroy Hawkins worked the ninth for his 12th save. "This team knows what to do and we continue to hold each other accountable, but you still have to get it done," Belisle said. "Tonight, thats what happened." The Rockies had to overcome an injuury-shortened night by starter Jorge De La Rosa.dddddddddddd The left-hander, who had lost his previous two starts, was forced out of the game after the third inning due to tightness in his lower back. The Rockies bailed him out with their huge ninth, marking the eighth time this season Colorado has won in its final at-bat. "They found a way to find the holes," Romo said following his third blown save this season. "I have no explanation for that other than it was their night. I felt fine. I needed a groundball and it didnt work out." Up to that point, Weiss team hadnt done much. Tim Lincecum worked six solid innings for San Francisco. The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner allowed three hits and two runs, retiring his final 10 batters. Three relievers combined to shut out Colorado over the next two innings before Romos collapse in the ninth. Morneau finished with two hits, the only Rockies player with multiple hits. De La Rosa struggled even before his back acted up. He had to strike out Lincecum to escape a bases-loaded jam in the second, then gave up a leadoff double to Angel Pagan in the third. After Hunter Pences RBI single, De La Rosa retired the next two batters but threw one pitch to Michael Morse before summoning team trainers and Weiss to the mound. Umpires allowed De La Rosa to make a few warmup pitches before Morse hit a tying single. Morse also doubled off Tommy Kahnle in the fifth, and Pence doubled and scored on a wild pitch by Chris Martin in the seventh. NOTES: C Rosario got hit in the face by a ball he fouled off that hit the ground and bounced straight up in the second inning. A team trainer came out to check on Rosario, who stayed in the game. ... Colorado RHP Christian Bergman (0-1) will make his second major league start on Saturday. The rookie allowed two runs in six innings in his pro debut on Monday. The NHLs Olympic roster freeze has been lifted and the countdown to the Mar. 5 Trade Deadline is on. As NHL teams return to business and team decide on whether to buy or sell, check out todays trade-related reports and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow TSN.ca right through Deadline Day for all the updates. St. Louis In Play? Larry Brooks of the New York Post writes that Martin St. Louis name has been in trade speculation and that the New York Rangers have inquired about a possible deal that would bring him to The Big Apple for captain Ryan Callahan. Brooks, however, adds that Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman has no interest in dealing away the Olympic gold medallist and two-time Art Ross Trophy winner for a player considered to be a rental. The Post also says Callahans asking price of seven years at about $6.75 million per year is believed to be beyond what the Lightning would be willing to pay to keep him from hitting the open market this summer. Wanting To Stay His name has been in trade rumours, but Colorado Avalanche forward P-A Parenteau has made it clear he wants to stay in Denver. "You try not to think about it, but its not easy, especially when you have a family," Parenteau told The Denver Post. "I love it here. I want to stay here. You dont want to leave a place you love, and you dont want to leave a really good team too, which is what we have here. So, I know this is a really big chance for me now, and Im planning on making it happen." Air Max White Online . Its been a successful Games for Canada, which will finish near the top of the medal standings again. From repeat gold medal winners to multiple medal winners to undefeated teams to acts that define the Olympic spirit, there are many solid candidates who could be considered to receive the honour. Kevin Durant certainly played like there was on Sunday night, scoring 36 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as the Thunder made quick work of the visiting Pacers with a 118-94 win. http://www.airmax2018sale.us/ . "Win basketball games," Collins said. He will get at least a few more chances. Collins played the final minutes of a winning home debut with the Brooklyn Nets, who cooled off the Chicago Bulls with a 96-80 victory Monday night. Mens Air Max 90 .Corey Brewer had 19 points eight rebounds, five assists and five steals for the Timberwolves, who snapped a six-game losing streak and won for just the third time since Ricky Rubio went out with an injured ankle on Nov. Cheap Blue Air Max .com) - Houston Texans interim head coach Wade Phillips confirmed Monday that starting quarterback Case Keenum sustained a sprained right thumb during Sundays 25-3 loss in Indianapolis.CHICAGO -- Jordan Danks and the Chicago White Sox are having a lot of fun these days. Its quite a change from a large chunk of the disappointing year. Danks hit a clutch two-run single in Chicagos three-run eighth inning, leading the White Sox to a 4-3 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. Danks finished with a career-high three hits as the White Sox won for the ninth time in 11 games, bouncing back from a difficult loss in the series opener. Paul Konerko, Alexei Ramirez and Avisail Garcia had two hits apiece. "Its a lot of fun. It kind of reminds you of last year and how fun that was," said Danks, who extended his hitting streak to nine games. "Even though we didnt pull that out in the end it was a lot more loose and this is how we know how to play. "Obviously we havent done it the whole year but we know this is how we can play and were very excited about it." Matt Dominguez had three hits and two RBIs for the Astros, who had won three of four. Dominguez and Chris Carter hit consecutive two-out homers off closer Addison Reed to give Houston a 10-8 victory on Monday night. The Astros appeared to be headed to their second straight win over the White Sox before the rally in the eighth. With two outs and runners on first and second, Konerko singled in Jeff Keppinger to cut Houstons lead to 3-2. Garcias infield hit then loaded the bases for Danks, who put the White Sox in front with a single to centre off Erik Bedard (3-10). Reed then came in and worked the ninth for his 36th save in 41 tries. Robbie Grossman had a two-out double for his third hit, but Reed got L.J. Hoes to bounce out to shortstop to end the game. Donnie Veal (2-3) got one out for the win. "Winning is fun. I mean, any time were winning were having a good time," Reed said. "Things have been good around here lately." White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana allowed three runs and eight hits over 7 2-3 innings in his 16th no-decision, tops in the majors. "I felt great the past three starts," Quintana said through a translator. "The only thing I concentrate on is giving the team the opportunity to win and battling. And thats what weve been doing -- battling and fighting.dddddddddddd. I cant be happier to do that." Dominguez had an RBI double in the fourth and a run-scoring single in the sixth. Carter hit an RBI single off Jake Petricka in the eighth, making it 3-1. But Bedard, who was making his third relief appearance in 26 games this season, couldnt hold onto the lead. "I was actually trying to get him to go ahead and finish it," manager Bo Porter said. "Hes built up, hes been starting all year. And you look at where were with their lineup, with the number of lefties in it. Hes able to get lefties and righties out, you feel pretty good that Erik Bedard had the ball in that situation." Paul Clemens pitched six sharp innings for Houston in his first career start. The right-hander, who was recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Oklahoma City, allowed one run and four hits and was in line for the win. Clemens made his first 30 appearances of his rookie year out of the bullpen, compiling a 4-4 record and 6.36 ERA. Porter said Clemens will remain in the rotation for the rest of the season. "Its an honour, its a privilege," Clemens said. "Just got to continue to work." Thats what the White Sox are doing, albeit well too late to save their season. They managed to get back on track after a sloppy performance in the series opener. "It was different from last night," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "I think defensively and just decision-making was better tonight." NOTES: Grossman singled in the first to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. . INF Leury Garcia, acquired from Texas in the Alex Rios trade, made his first start for the White Sox, batting ninth and playing second base. Ventura said Garcia, who went 0 for 3, likely will start Wednesday at shortstop, giving Ramirez his first day off of the season. ... To make room for Clemens, the Astros optioned RHP David Martinez to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Martinez, who was 1-0 with a 5.86 ERA, pitched 2 2-3 innings for Mondays win. Porter said Martinez will return after the Triple-A playoffs. . Wednesdays pitching matchup is Houstons Jarred Cosart (1-1, 1.60 ERA) against Chris Sale (9-12, 3.08 ERA). Each week, TSN.ca Fantasy Editor Scott Cullen and NFL Editors Ben Fisher and Mitch Ward discuss three hot fantasy football topics. 1) With Rob Gronkowski finally back, where will he finish the year in terms of fantasy points among TEs? Cullen: I expect Gronkowski to finish in the top five among tight ends in total points by the end of the year. Barring injury, Jimmy Graham, Vernon Davis and Julius Thomas have sizeable enough leads that they should be able to finish ahead. Jordan Cameron has a big lead, but with shaky quarterback play, could be easier to catch. After that, theres lots of room for Gronk to move up, especially if Tom Brady is going to target him as heavily as he did in his first game of the season, when he sent 17 passes in Gronkowskis direction. Fisher: Gronkowski has nine weeks left to catch up to the 40 or so tight ends ahead of him in fantasy points. I think he catches up to all but about seven of them. Im giving Gronk at least 10 points a week and three or four weeks where he scores closer to 20. Theyre lofty numbers but we all know what hes capable of – and he is by far the most desirable option in New Englands offence this year – so its definitely possible. If Gronkowski stays healthy, hell finish as a Top 10 tight end on the verge of being Top 5. Ward: Gronkowski is a top-3 tight end from here on out. He marked his return to game action with eight catches and 114 yards which is nice, but more importantly he saw 17 targets and did not suffer any injury setbacks. The 17 targets are massive and are a clear indication that he is going to be Tom Bradys favourite target the rest of the way. You can expect double digit targets on a weekly basis and you should also expect the catch rate to improve as he and Brady get back on the same page. There are plenty more big days in store for Gronk. 2) Can Darrius Heyward-Bey be a serviceable fantasy starter now that Reggie Wayne is out for the season? Cullen: The Colts will hope that Heyward-Bey can provide that kind of production and the opportunity to start in an offence with a quality quarterback makes him worth adding in many leagues, but Im more inclined to raise expectations for T.Y. Hilton or even TE Coby Fleener before getting too carried away with expectations for Heyward-Bey. Fisher: Heyward-Bey finished last year just outside the Top 50 in fantasy scoring at WR. Hes in a much more enviable situation this year with Andrew Luck and the Colts but enough to put up Top 30 WR numbers? Heyward-Bey actually put up double digit points against the Broncos after Wayne left with an injury but I dont expect that to continue on a weekly basis. The 26-year-old actually started the year ahead of T.Y. Hilton on the depth chart and I wouldnt be surprised if LaVon Brazill jumps ahead of DHB at some point too. Hes just not a good receiver. Ward: DHB is going to see more targets out of necessity without Wayne in the Colts lineup. However, Heyward-Bey is not Reggie Wayne and you need to temper expectations somewhat because of the relatively conservative offence Pep Hamilton has implemented in Indy. The Colts just dont take a ton of shots deep which mitigates Heyward-Beys biggest asset: speed. Id expect someone like tight end Coby Fleener to see a much bigger uptick in usage than Heyward-Bey. Despite the loss of Wayne, Heyward-Bey is no more than a low-end WR3 at this point. 3) After returning from injury with two solid weeks, can a healthy Eddie Lacy be a Top 10 fantasy RB? Cullen: No doubt. Lacy has run for 301 yards over the last three weeks and with the receiving corps depleted for the Packers, they might actually need to run the ball more. The top seven or eight backs are pretty set this year, but after that group the production varies quite a bit and its easy enough to see Lacy as a better option than DeMarco Murray, Gio Bernard or even Alfred Morris. Fisher: The Packers are virtually void of all options in the passing game and that should help Lacy with scoring opportunities, but its still hard to consider him a Top 10 running back. He has been playing near his ceiling since returning from injury and has only barely been a Top 10 back the past two weeks. The 230 pound power back might bump his totals with some goal line opportunities but he probably more accurately slots in as a solid RB2. Ward: Top-10 might be a tad high but hes definitely in that range. Last week against the Browns, Lacy had 22 carries compared to just two for Jonathan Franklin. Lacy is the Packers workhorse and with so many injuries at receiver in Green Bay, he figures to see a heavy workload going forward including more looks in the passing game. Lacy also has a pretty running back friendly schedule the rest of the way so top-10 production, while not guaranteed, is certainly in play. Nike Shox Outlet .com) - Nicklas Backstrom scored a pair of goals and Alex Ovechkin notched a highlight-reel tally, leading the Washington Capitals to a 4-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday at the Prudential Center. Even a declaration that City is now the dominant power in Manchester didnt seem so farfetched, albeit unusually eye-catching from a manager renowned for his intentionally bland public comments. Rather than attempting to set off a verbal skirmish with Manchester United, this was just a statement of fact on Monday by a manager with a spring in his step ahead of the biggest European game in the clubs long, but not so illustrious, history. Well, not compared with Uniteds. That could all be changing, Pellegrini predicts. Barcelonas previous trips to Manchester for competitive games have always been to Old Trafford, failing to win on four visits against United. But the Spanish champions will play a first competitive game against City on Tuesday, in the Champions League round of 16, facing a team third in the Premier League while United is fading in seventh and unlikely to qualify for European soccers elite competition next season. "If we only consider this season, there is just one club in Manchester and its ours," Pellegrini said in Spanish. "But you cannot forget what United has done in the previous years. We are aiming to keep growing by winning many trophies -- not just national but international trophies. We are fighting for four titles this year." Just 15 years ago, though, City was in the depths of the third tier of English soccer before embarking on an uneasy ascent back from the wilderness. After returning to the Premier League in 2002 and staying in business when it faced oblivion, the wealth of Abu Dhabis ruling family has enabled City to become the biggest spenders in world soccer since 2008. The takeover had City supporters starrt to dream about knocking United off its pedestal, but despite winning the Premier League in 2012, only since Alex Fergusons retirement from United last year has the balance of power looked as if it was seriously shifting.dddddddddddd "We have to be patient because you cannot change the team from one day to another," Pellegrini said. "We have to keep the philosophy of the style and for that you need time." Under David Moyes, United seems to be fading as a force on the pitch, just as Barcelonas cloak of invincibility has slipped away since manager Pep Guardiola left in 2012. Yet while Barcelona is on top of the Spanish standings, in a three-way battle for the title with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, United is not a Premier League threat -- for now. But it will take far longer for City to usurp Uniteds commercial might or global fan base. A victory over Barcelona would go some way to enhancing Citys global credibility after the expensively assembled squad slipped out of the Champions League at the group stage in the previous two seasons when Roberto Mancini was still in charge. Mancinis departure after last season ended without a trophy and enabled City to bring in a more composed manager who has enjoyed a tranquil first season at the helm. "This club is trying to develop in all areas, and so far we have a good season, but we must finish that way," Pellegrini said. City midfielder Yaya Toure left Barcelona just before the Catalans went on to sweep five trophies in 2011 alone. Toure has only won the Premier League and FA Cup at City, but sees a victory over Barcelona as an opportunity to show there is more to come from this team. "Barcelona are at the top level in the world and if we want to move on and one day be one of the top clubs in the world, we have to play against those teams," Toure said. Ha Na Jang fired a 10-under 62 in calmer conditions at rainy Miramar to take a six-stroke lead in the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship. After shooting a 69 in high wind and early rain on Friday for a share of the lead with fellow South Korean player Hee Young Park, Jang had her lowest score in her two-year LPGA Tour career and matched the best round in the three years the event has been played at Miramar. The 24-year-old, who is chasing her third victory of the year, started quickly with a wedge to three feet on the opening hole and hit another to five feet on the fifth. She then holed putts of 10 feet on the sixth, eight feet from the fringe on the seventh, and 15 feet on the ninth before chipping in for birdie from 15 feet on 11 and making a 12-footer on the 12th.Jang also birdied three of the last four holes to reach 16-under 200, hitting a wedge to four feet on 15, making a 30-foot putt on 16 and closing her bogey-free round with a tap-in on 18 after a flop shot that landed on a ridge and trickled down to the hole. But somebody else told me Ha Na shot like 62 today. ... Somebody shot 62 today. Maybe Ill shoot 62 tomorrow. Who knows?Shadoff is tied for eighth place at six under. After opening with rounds of 78 and 70, she birdied 10 of the first 15 holes and closed with three pars.It was getting the ball in the fairway, Shadoff said. Samuel Etoo put Cameroon ahead in the 62nd, before Thomas Mueller and Andre Schuerrle gave Germany the lead. But Maxim Choupo-Moting clinched the draw in the 78th. Germany played without goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, defender and captain Philipp Lahm and midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, who are nursing injuries, while striker Miroslav Klose sat out the match. Klose has been bothered by various injuries throughout the season. Left back Erik Durm made his debut, with another defender, Marcel Schmelzer, also injured. Germany has drawn its last two matches, with an under-strength side held 0-0 by Poland last month. The Germans also play Armenia on June 6, the day before they leave for Brazil. Loew picked Cameroon as an opponent because it also faces an African team in its group at the World Cup, Ghana. The other rivals are Portugal and the United States. Cameroon faces host Brazil, Croatia and Mexico. "It was a good opponent, they play hard," Loew said. "We lost possession often and they can counter." Cameroon weathered early German pressure before Etoo struck. His first shot was saved by Roman Weidenfeller, but Choupo-Moting, who plays for Mainz in Germany, squared the ball baack and Etoo knocked it in.dddddddddddd Mueller and Schuerrle turned the game with goals in quick succession. Mueller headed in the equalizer in the 66th after good work by Jerome Boateng on the right. Schuerrle scored from Lukas Podolskis low cross in the 71st. Podolski was offside but the flag stayed down. Germany scored only after Schuerrle came in for Mario Goetze and Podolski for the ineffective Oezil. Oezil wasted Germanys best chance after only 40 seconds by shooting wide. The Arsenal midfielder was hardly involved after that. Schuerrle and Podolski gave Germany more space and Mueller scored as soon as he moved into the striker position. Germany had other good chances, especially in the second half, but could not score. "It would have been good if we had used our early chances. We seem to need a lot of chances to score, that has been evident in recent months," Loew said. Germany paid for its inefficiency when Choupo-Moting broke through on the left and beat Weidenfeller with a low shot inside the far post. Mueller said Germany still had some work to do ahead before the World Cup. "Its hard to draw conclusions from this match. We should have been ahead after 10 minutes, we did not use our chances. Its good that the World Cup is still a little bit away," said Mueller, who scored five goals in South Africa at the 2010 World Cup. REGINA -- Regina city council is going very long on a $100-million loan to help build a new football stadium for the CFLs Saskatchewan Roughriders. Councillors have given formal approval to borrowing the money and repaying it over the next 31 and a half years with an interest rate of 3.99 per cent. The rate will remain in effect over the life of the loan, with the city making semi-annual payments of just over $2.8 million. A $12 surcharge will be added to tickets for football games, concerts and other events to help cover the loan. Mayor Michael Fougere says the city had to move now because of fears that interest rates may rise. The Saskatchewan government is contributing $80 million dollars to the stadium project, while the Roughriders are putting up $25 million. Cheap Devin Fuller Jersey . PORTLAND, Ore. -- Free agent centre Chris Kaman has agreed to a two-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. A person with knowledge of the negotiations confirmed the agreement, which cannot be formally announced until new contracts are finalized next Thursday. The deal, worth a reported $9.8 million, was first reported Thursday night by Yahoo! Sports. Kaman confirmed the deal with a post on his official Twitter account. "Portland is a great fit for me, its a team that has done great things and has a lot of talent! Cant wait to get started in .RipCity," he posted. The burley 7-foot centre has averaged 11.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks over an 11-year NBA career. He is expected to back up Robin Lopez with the Blazers. He spent last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds, but was limited to a career-low 18.7 minutes in 39 games. He struggled late in the season with injuries. Kaman was the sixth overall pick in the 2003 draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. The Michigan native, who played at Central Michigan, was an All-Star with the Clippers in 2010, averaging a career-high 18.5 points and 9.3 rebounds, before he was traded to New Orleans the next season. He played for the Dallas Mavericks in 2012-13 before signing a one-year deal with the Lakers. The Blazers will be his fifth team. The Oilers, who are last in the Western Conference and 20 points out of a playoff spot, have been playing well lately, winning two straight and seven of their last 11 games. Taylor Hall notched the game-winner at 2:31 of overtime in Edmontons most recent victory, as the Oilers downed the visiting New York Islanders 3-2 on Thursday. Edmonton scored three unanswered goals to top the Isles in OT. Sam Gagner took the puck off Islanders defenseman Brian Strait in transition through the neutral zone and deked past a sliding defender to fire a shot that deflected off Halls stick and past Evgeni Nabokov into the net. Philip Larsen and Ryan Smyth both lit the lamp in the third period and Ben Scrivens turned aside 32 shots for the win. "Id rather we didnt wait until the last four minutes of the second period to get going," Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins said. "We have been preaching the way to play and it wasnt until near the end of the second that we understood what we needed to do and we carried it on to the third." Smyth moved past Wayne Gretzky to tie Glenn Anderson for first place on the Oilers all-time power-play goal list with 126 tallies. Edmonton is 2-1-1 on a five-game homestand that ends tonight. The Oilers are 12-15-3 as the host this season. The Kings have won six in a row, matching a run from Dec. 2-14 for their longest winning streak of the seasonn.dddddddddddd The last five wins of the surge have come since the NHL returned from its Olympic break late last month. Another win on Sunday would give the Kings their longest winning streak since taking nine in a row from Jan. 21-Feb. 6, 2010. Thanks in part to its recent hot streak, Los Angeles is still six points ahead of Dallas for third place in the Pacific Division. The top-three teams from all four divisions make the playoffs, while the remaining two spots in each conference are wild cards. The Kings picked up their most recent win Thursday night in Winnipeg, as L.A. kicked off a three-game road trip with a 3-1 decision over the Jets at MTS Centre. Mike Richards and Dustin Brown each netted second-period goals, giving Jonathan Quick and the Kings all the support they would need for the victory in Winnipeg. Alec Martinez added a power-play goal later on to sew up the win. Quick was lightly tested, but aided the cause by stopping 17-of-18 shots. "In the third we kind of slowed down a bit and maybe sat back a bit," Richards said. "But I thought we played well. We didnt do much with (the puck), other than kept it simple and got back to the net with it." The win improved L.A. to 17-12-3 on the road this season. The Kings will complete their trip tomorrow night in Calgary. The Kings have won both meetings against Edmonton so far in 2013-14, but this marks the first encounter of the season at Rexall Place. L.A. has won four straight and six of seven overall in the series and the Kings have claimed eight of the past 10 meetings in Edmonton.   Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

DETROIT - Dallas Keuchel won this matchup of old college roommates — then admitted he hadnt paid much attention to his friend-turned-adversary on the mound. Keuchel outpitched Drew Smyly, and the Houston Astros beat Detroit 6-2 on Thursday to snap the Tigers eight-game winning streak. Keuchel and Smyly both pitched for the Arkansas team that reached the College World Series in 2009, but on this day, Keuchel had more important concerns than watching his fellow left-hander throw. "I honestly didnt see a single pitch from him," Keuchel said. "I was in the tunnel. It was kind of hot today for Detroit right now, and I was just trying to stay cool as much as possible." Keuchel (3-2) allowed two runs and six hits in 7 2-3 innings, and Houston ended its five-game losing streak. The Astros broke through with three runs in the fifth off Smyly (2-2) to take the lead. Houstons George Springer, a first-round draft pick in 2011, hit his first major league homer. Carlos Corporan and Matt Dominguez also went deep for the Astros. Victor Martinez homered for the Tigers. Smyly allowed only one hit — an infield single — through the first four innings, but his outing took a turn for the worse in the fifth when Springer lined a one-out solo homer over the wall in right. "Its obviously good to hit something hard and to have a great result like that," said Springer, who planned to give the home run ball to his father. "I didnt try to do too much — was able to stay on it and hit it hard, and for me thats a great sign." Jose Altuve put the Astros ahead 3-2 with a two-run double later that inning. Smyly allowed three runs and five hits in 5 1-3 innings. He struck out two and walked three. Corporan homered off reliever Evan Reed in the seventh to make it 4-2. Keuchel struck out seven without a walk, navigating a tough Detroit lineup without too much difficulty. "I wont be talking to him for a while," Smyly joked. "I thought hed do OK, but hes a lefty and with our offence, I thought wed get to him. Hes a very smart pitcher and hes a bulldog, and we couldnt do anything with him. Thats as good as Ive seen him, and you have to tip your hat." Keuchels final big test came in the seventh, when Detroit put men on first and third with two out. Keuchel struck out pinch-hitter Torii Hunter to end the inning. The temperature at game time was 77 degrees, and Keuchel said his decision to ignore Smylys pitching was nothing personal. "On the more humid days, Ill try to go in and keep cool in between innings, so I dont usually watch the other pitcher," he said. "In this case, it was my college roommate, so Im sure hell be mad I didnt see a few pitches." Miguel Cabrera came to the plate in the eighth after Ian Kinslers single chased Keuchel, but the best the Detroit slugger could do against reliever Anthony Bass was a soft grounder to second. Dominguez hit a two-run homer in the ninth. The Tigers opened the scoring in the second on an RBI double by Nick Castellanos. Springer, who came close to preventing a homer by Cabrera the previous night, nearly caught this drive too, but it caromed off the wall in right field. Martinez hit his seventh homer of the year in the fourth. He finished the day with three hits, extending his hitting streak to 11. And we still have a lot of confidence. Before hitting his first playoff homer, Gordon doubled in three runs, was picked off first base, made a great catch in left field and got hit in the neck with a pitch.Gordy just has a lot of confidence in his abilities, Yost said. Hes a guy that can hit by a pitch and do exactly what he did, drive it out of the ballpark tonight, after getting hit in the neck. So it was a huge hit for us at that point. As the ball soared over the wall, Orioles reliever Darren ODay flung his cap to the ground in frustration.I made a mistake and he got it, the right-hander said. You go up there and roll the dice. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.It was Baltimores first playoff loss following a three-game sweep of Detroit in the Division Series. One game does not the series make, Orioles catcher Nick Hundley said. After Gordon connected in the 10th, Moustakas followed with another shot to right, this one off Brian Matusz with a runner on.This best-of-seven series was billed as Kansas Citys speed against Baltimores power, but the Royals didnt steal a base and hit all of the games three home runs.We know were capable of hitting home runs, Gordon said. We didnt do it during the regular season. But it doesnt really matter. This is the post-season and were starting to swing the bats better now. Its good to see.The Orioles tried to rally in the 10th. The tying run scored off Kelvin Herrera on a low popup by Alejandro De Aza that dropped behind the mound.Early on, Kansas City dominated. After the Orioles left the bases loaded in the second inning, Alcides Escobar drove a 2-0 pitch from Chris Tillman into the left-field seats. It was his 22nd homer in 2,994 career at-bats, including this post-season.Kansas City then sandwiched two singles around a four-pitch walk to load the bases with two outs for Gordon, who lofted a broken-bat fly that landed about four feet inside the right-field foul line for a 4-0 lead.Gordon also hit a three-run double in the finale of Kansas Citys three-game sweep of the Angels in the Division Series.Baltimore got an RBI single from Adam Jones in the bottom half, but a diving catch by Gordon prevented further damage.A sacrifice fly by Butler in the fifth made it 5-1.UP NEXTRoyals: In two starts against the Orioles this season, Ventura has a 1.26 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 14 1-3 innings.Orioles: Baltimore tries to rebound from its first loss since Sept. 27. Yet Carroll, the Seattle coach and Harbaughs biggest rival in the NFC West, is supporting his 49ers counterpart at a time everybody figures Harbaugh is on his way out.Harbaugh has one season remaining on the $25 million, five-year contract he signed in January 2011. His Niners play Sunday at Seattle, where the Seahawks beat San Francisco by six points in the NFC championship game last January on the way to a Super Bowl title.Carroll said he wouldnt comment on the garbage of speculation surrounding the future for Harbaugh, who recruited Carrolls son to San Diego.Ive never seen him not be a really good coach, Carroll said. Hes a fantastic football coach. Ive watched him do all the stuff he did at Stanford and turned that program around. What hes done at the Niners, I know that hes a great football coach. Not everybody likes everybody or gets along with everybody, but sometimes they dont see the magic that guys have. I think hes a fantastic football coach. Hes proven that. Theres no question about that. One of their infamous moments came in a surprising 55-21 rout by Harbaughs No. 25 Stanford against Carrolls 11th-ranked Southern California team in 2009. The Cardinal even attempted a 2-point conversion with the game way out of reach, prompting Carrolls infamous Whats your deal? when the coaching rivals met afterward at midfield.Hes a stud. He aint going to waver, Carroll said. Hes going to keep battling and do what he does. Hes a great competitor. Always has been. I have tremendous respect for him.All the other stuff you guys have always thought was going on (between us), there aint much to it. This is two football guys going at it, two guys that love to compete and battle and theres nobody Id rather play. I love playing against him and thats the way its been since the beginning.COMING HOME: This is the time of the season when bottom-of-the-roster transactions pick up with teams positioning for next season. So on the surface Minnesotas signing offensive tackle Carter Bykowski off San Franciscos practice squad was no special move.Except that Bykowski grew up in Eden Prairie a few miles away from where the Vikinggs have their headquarters, playing in high school for coach Mike Grant, the son of former Vikings coach and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Bud Grant.dddddddddddd Bykowski was a boyhood friend and teammate of Ryan Grant, Mike Grants son and Bud Grants grandson, so hes no stranger to one of the most influential figures in franchise history. He might not recognize me or remember me. I was 240 back then in high school, said Bykowski, whos listed at 6-foot-7 and 306 pounds.Bykowski went to Iowa State as a tight end but moved to tackle as his upper body filled out. He was a seventh-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2013.I had a great time there, but its a good opportunity here so youve got to take advantage of it, he said. The call from his agent with the news on Monday was entirely unexpected for Bykowski. It was unbelievable. Its pretty sweet to go home, he said.SUHS SWAN SONG?: This weekend could be the last home game at Ford Field for Ndamukong Suh. The Detroit defensive tackle can become a free agent after this season. The Lions are in the mix for a post-season spot, but theres certainly no guarantee of any more home games after Sundays against Minnesota. Suh isnt tipping his hand on any future plans. Not a clue, he said Wednesday. Its not my decision.Huh?Suh said reporters should talk to Jimmy Sexton, his agent, if they want information on his free agency.Itll be Jimmys decision, so well go with that, he said.CHICKEN OR FISH? Von Miller is still in the bird business, raising chickens back home in Texas. But now hes also into fish. The Broncos pass rusher said he just purchased a 300-gallon saltwater tank for his home in Denver. He wanted some sharks, but theyd knock over the colorful coral. And he doesnt want to mix predators with nonpredators. So hes still deciding which fish to get.Miller said he cant have a dog because he puts in such long hours at work, so he went with the fish tank. When teammates asked him this week where they could buy some tropical fish themselves, Miller whipped out his phone and told them, No, dont go to a pet store. Ill hook you up with my fish dude.Hes a got a guy that handles his fish?Yeah, he said hell come over, and every week, to check on them, Miller said. Hes my fish dude.ONE-BACK BENGALS: The Bengals are moving away from their two-back approach.Cincinnati originally intended to use Giovani Bernard and rookie Jeremy Hill as complementary running backs. Bernard started the first seven games before he was sidelined for three by shoulder and hip injuries. Hill emerged in his absence, running for more than 150 yards twice.Offensive co-ordinator Hue Jackson tried blending Bernard back into the mix for three games, with unsatisfying results. Hill carried only eight times for 48 yards during a 42-21 loss to the Steelers on Sunday, while Bernard had six carries for 17 yards. Its apparent that Hill, more of a power runner, will be getting the bulk of the plays going forward.Im used to having one guy kind of dominate some carries because in order for backs to be really good, theyve got to get lathered up to play, Jackson said. Youve got to get a feel for the game.We have two capable guys and theyre different guys and well let it play itself out, but I think we have a pretty good idea which way were headed.___AP Pro Football Writers Barry Wilner, Dave Campbell and Arnie Stapleton, and Sports Writers Joe Kay, Janie McCauley and Kristie Rieken contributed to this notebook.___AP NFL website: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers will try to press on amidst the on-going controversy with owner Donald Sterling Tuesday night when their series with the Golden State Warriors returns to the Staples Center tied 2-2. After Sterling was allegedly caught on tape making hideous racially insensitive remarks, he did not attend Game 4s loss at Oracle Arena. You can see the action live on TSN2 at 10:30pm et/7:30pm pt. Commissioner Adam Silver will have a 2 p.m. ET press conference Tuesday afternoon, where its expected he will make some announcement about Sterlings punishment. The team has taken the high road to this point, allowing head coach Doc Rivers to speak on the teams behalf. "We are all trying to figure out everything as it goes and just do our best and we hope that it is the right answer," Rivers said in a statement. "Im still going to do my best and do what I think is best for the team and for everybody in this case. It is very difficult because there are so many emotions in this. This is a very emotional subject, this is personal." The Clippers players staged a silent protest prior to tip-off Sunday by wearing their pregame shirts inside-out with the teams logo out of sight. They wore black arm or wrist bands and black socks but appeared stuck in warmup mode when the game got underway. The Warriors blew out the Clippers in Sundays Game 4, 118-97. "Its my job as a coach to get them ready and I just didnt feel like I did the right stuff," said Rivers. "I gotta do a better job. Whatever the distractions, whatever, I gotta do a better job. I didnt do my job tonight. I take that personally." Stephen Curry jumped out to a fast start in Game 4 and the Warriors shot 55 percent from the field in rolling to the win. Curry finished with 33 points, seven assists and seven rebounds, while Andre Iguodala netted 22 points for the Warriors, who had dropped back-to-back games after stealing the opener in LA. Klay Thompson, David Lee and Harrison Barnes all finished with 15 points. Curry raced out with 17 points in the first 8:30, hitting all five of his 3- point attempts as the Warriors opened a 20-point lead in the first quarter. "We tried to come out with a sense of urgency. Thats been a big problem in the first three games," said Curry. "As a team we havent started games off well and theyve gotten a double-digit lead each first quarter. So we moved the ball well, guys set great screens and we executed at a higher pace. When we do that, were tough to guard." Warriors head coach Mark Jackson inserted Draymond Green into the starting lineup in place of Jermaine ONeal. Green only finished with four points, but Golden State got the victory. The Clippers pulled within nine in the fourth but did not climb out of the mammoth hole. Jamal Crawford and Blake Griffin led the club with 26 and 21 points, respectively. Chris Paul finished with 16 points, followed by 12 from J.J. Redick and 10 out of Matt Barnes. By Tuesdays tip, the Clippers should know the fate of Sterling and hopefully will get closer to closure. Either way, the series must go on. "I just believe when the game starts, the game starts and nobody cares anymore," Rivers said following the loss. "Golden State surely didnt care." This week, they discuss the strategy of the CFLPA, the Oilers hiring of Bob Nicholson, the Alouettes firing of offensive coordinator Rick Worman and the U.S. Open. Gary Lawless, TSN Radio - My thumb is down to the ill-fated strategy of the CFLPA and the underwhelming results theyve achieved once again. Disorganized and delusional best describe the players union in this latest CFL labour impasse. Their first offer was inflammatory and unattainable. They followed up with a series of retreats and eventual surrender. The CFLPA has followed the lead of legal counsel Ed Molstad since 1974. Lacking best describes the results. The CFLPA needs to represent its constituency with a spirit of inclusion and a face of diversity. The union must look inward and evolve. Questions must be asked and answered and hard decisions executed. The CFLPA finds itself at the intersection of change and rot. Its time to pick a new route. Steve Simmons, Sun Media - My thumb is up to Edmonton Oilers owner Darryl Katz for going outside the family and hiring Bob Nicholson to oversee everything that is Oiler. This isnt necessarily a hockey move as much as it is a business move but in either area Nicholson is clearly equipped for the challenge. And this is a challenge both in the standings and from what Katz wants from the newly formed business called Oilers Entertainment Group. Sports is no longer about only wins and losses. Its so much about veneer. In Edmonton, there will be a new downtown arena, an area to grow around it, a footprint for the future. When Nicholson took over Hockey Canadaa, it was a small disorganized operation, lacking in business acumen.dddddddddddd He left it as a hockey corporation. The Oilers are fortunate to have him. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated - My thumb is down to the Alouettes for the firing of offensive coordinator Rick Worman. Three months after coach Tom Higgins hired Worman, he canned him - before Montreal had played an exhibition game. Higgins was right to act sooner rather than later, unlike 2013 when the era of occupationally-challenged head coach Dan Hawkins lasted five games. But the abrupt dismissal speaks to the dysfunction of the franchise, whose owner, Robert Wetenhall, hired Higgins without involving GM Jim Popp. The Alouettes used to stand for quality on the field and steadfastness off it. If the Worman saga is an indication, soon the only thing the Alouettes will stand for is O Canada. Dave Hodge, TSN - My thumb is up to the U.S. Open golf championship, with emphasis on "open". To win the Masters, you have to be invited. To win the Open, you have to qualify, and everyone is eligible to try, which means anyone from anywhere can win. And that creates interest because "anyone" can be someone like 49-year-old Fran Quinn, who put his name on the leaderboard with a first-round 68. Who is Fran Quinn? He has one year of experience on the PGA Tour. Last year? No, 1992. He played in 18 events that year and he missed the cut 12 times. This year, he has played one event - on the Web.com Tour, golfs development league, if you will. Fran Quinn is still playing at Pinehurst - he followed his 68 with rounds of 74 and 79. He wont win. But he had a chance to win. Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
